Pitú
The two traditional families Ferrer de Morais and Cândido Carneiro in north-east Brazil began producing the high-quality distillate from sugar cane back in 1938. In the search for a suitable trade mark, they quickly agreed on “PITÚ”. PITÚ is a freshwater crab that is native to various rivers in Brazil. PITÚ is a Brazilian spirit made from pure sugar cane. This so-called “sugar cane liquor” is the national drink in Brazil. The most common use for PITÚ in Europe is the PITÚrinha – the premium caipirinha with PITÚ cachaça, lime, brown cane sugar and crushed ice. PITÚ is made from pure sugar cane and is therefore not comparable to white rum, which is produced from the remains of sugar cane extraction such as molasses. Only the best, selected sugar cane is used for PITÚ, distilled and processed to the highest technical standards.

Cocktail ideas
Pitú Pornstar Caipi
- 5 cl PITÚ
- ½ lime
- ½ tsp brown sugar
- 8 cl Passoã
- ½ passion fruit
Cut a fresh lime into eighths and place half in a cocktail glass. Add the cane sugar and crush everything vigorously with a pestle. Add the PITÚ and Passoã, top up with crushed ice and garnish with ½ passion fruit.
